Kilncasting & HotcastingMitchell Gaudet | GeneralSession: 5aa / 31 July - 13 August, 2005

Want to make your sculptural idea in glass? Learn how to kilncast using the zircar mold material as well as casting hot glass from a furnace. This course will be very intensive and comprehensive in all aspects of hot glass casting. It will include discussions, and demonstrations as well. Emphasis will be placed on helping the students solve idea, design and fabrication problems. The classes will include, mold materials; sand, graphite, wood, paper, cloth, plaster, vegetation, color; surface, top bottom, cold, stencils and stamps, inclusions; metals, sulphides, drawings, off punty, zircar, a ceramic shell material used for both kiln and hot casting of glass and metals, as well as experimental casting explorations, cast glass production design and fabrication, large scale casting and architectural installations. No prior glass experience required, just come with ideas and be prepared to work hard.
