GlassblowingED SCHMID | Beginners to Intermediate

Application deadline* : March 1 Tuition fee : US$1050 Accommodation fee : US$450 Arrival : April 29 Departure : May 14 Deposit** : March 1 Remainder : March 21 This class is for people with little or no experience with hot glass. Learn from the guy that wrote the book on glassblowing; the tools, techniques and design that are involved in this time-honored tradition. Blowing and sculpting molten glass will be the focus of this class, leaving you with a strong foundation for further studies. Additional topics include color applications, design and skill building with some history of glassmaking thrown in. Issues concerning health and safety in the studio will also be addressed. Expect to draw, design and have plenty of hands-on practice in this fun-filled action-packed workshop that will condense 2,000 years of glassmaking knowledge in a two-week period.
Ed Schmid![]() Ed Schmid has worked with hot glass for over the past 21 years. He has been teaching hot glass classes since 1989. Ed is also the author of "Beginning Glassblowing" and "Advanced Glassworking Techniques", the world's best-selling books on how-to blow glass from the furnace. During the past two decades has studied and worked with some of the most prominent artists in the glass world, Ed has also learned a great deal from working in different capacities at the Pilchuck Glass School for over ten seasons. He has taught classes and workshops in glassblowing all across North America for the past sixteen years. Recently, he worked with the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA creating information and curriculum for visitors and school children that visit the museum. Ed enthusiastically shares his knowledge of glassblowing with his students and his community, and dedicates half of his year to teaching and the other half to writing projects and to designing and creating his own art at Glass Mountain Studios in Bellingham, WA. www.glassmtn.com * An additional US$20 registration fee is charged during application ** The amount of deposit to be paid is US$320 |
