Sculpture in Glass
This class is an exploration toward creating glass sculpture. The initial emphasis will be on the breakdown of a design into basic components that can be used to construct a finished glass piece. Working together, the class will learn blowing skills, solid sculpting techniques, and mold blowing procedures, along with construction and assembly techniques. Class discussions, demonstrations, and exercises will develop concepts, composition, and design aesthetics. Basic glassblowing skills are required.

James Vella


James Vella, a native of Denver, Colorado, was educated at Hastings College in Nebraska and has been working with glass for over fifteen years. His work has been featured in galleries across the country including Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Minneapolis, Nebraska, New Orleans, New York and Seattle. James's artwork is also included in several private collections and is in the permanent collection of the Knoxville Museum of Art. He is the owner of Vella Vetro Art Glass Studio in New Orleans. In addition to an exhibition history, James has taught various glass courses at Bild-Werk Glass School in Frauenau Germany, Penland North Carolina, and Red Deer College, Alberta, Canada. He has also been on staff at Pilchuck Glass School, an international educational glass facility in Washington State. The summer of 2005, he was awarded as an artist in residency at the Eisch Factory in Germany.
