John de Wit

John de Wit has primarily engaged himself for the last ten years in the "vessel as a canvas", using its sculptural potential joined with a historical reference. His interest lies in the container as emblem of domestic activity, a surface for narrative and decorative application, and metaphor for life. Combining the painting techniques, he has developed with hybridized Swedish and Italian glass blowing processes, the vessels and objects produced reflect an interest in glass transcending its common purpose and achieving a sculptural possibility. John De Wit is an internationally recognized glass artist living on Whidbey Island, in Washington State. He is represented throughout the USA by Foster/White Gallery, in Seattle, Washington. John's artwork is in the collections of the Boeing Corp., Microsoft, the De Rosa Preserve, and the Corning Glass Museum. He was the 2005 recipient of the Silver Prize at the 4th Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Korea, and has been featured in the fall 2005 issue of UrbanGlass Art Quarterly, a magazine that focuses on glass as a medium for contemporary art. www.johndewit.com
