Working forward by thinking backwards
This class will focus on the exploration of non-traditional glassblowing methods, and a survey of techniques not usually included in most glassblowing classes. By focusing first on the creative and then on technical issues, students will have the opportunity to develop their design ideas for what they are, rather than concentrating on technical aspects such as "the perfect bubble." Students are encouraged to think about glass as a medium for executing original creative ideas -anything they can imagine- and will explore the processes of integrating multiple components, solid working and hot sculpting into their designs. Students are expected to come to the class with an unlimited resource of creative energy and at least a hundred ideas; the goal of this course is to be outlandish in the creative process and thoroughly clever in the technical execution of their work.
