The Next Step
This course is designed for experienced glass artists who wish to make a leap forward. It will be directed at discovering ways of planning and making your best work in contemporary glass. You will be engaged in the thinking processes that may be employed to imagine, design and resolve the optimal ideas that can be applied to your kiln formed glass works. Expect to travel beyond your usual path. Equally applicable to the designer, craftsperson and artist the class will utilise advanced techniques in colour manipulation using compatible glass. While directed at the aesthetic aspect of kilnworking there will inevitably be some concentration on specific skills of glass handling, kilnfiring and finishing techniques. Attention will also be given to health and safety, some history of contemporary glass, ephemeral pieces and works placed in the environment. Class members will work on both enhancing their current practice and inventing new directions. Some tasks will be set, working together and alone, but there will also be self-directed projects. Applicants should forward three images of their current work and a brief statement about their glass experience. [JPEG, 35 mm colour slide or colour print.] Artists experienced in other media and wishing to work with glass are also invited to apply.
This class will be offered in English with translation to German available.
