The goal of this class is to offer an elevated sense of what mosaic is all about and the knowledge to enable you to push to the next level. The class will specifically cover working with texture, scale, andamento and spacing; achieving effects through varied cutting and laying styles and/or mixed materials, working direct. Technically there will be extensive inquiry into cutting and laying techniques and broadening your skill set. Besides, the students will visit the three major mosaic sites in Istanbul for a day.
Sonia King![]() Artist Sonia King's first contact with mosaics was as a child when her mother worked in the medium. She has visited ancient mosaic sites and studied with modern mosaic artists around the world. Sonia received a BFA from California College of Arts and a MBA from Southern Methodist University. She is a founding member and Past President of the Society of American Mosaic Artists as well as instructor in mosaics at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas. Additionally, Sonia has been granted membership in the Associazione Internazionale Mosaicisti Contemporanei (AIMC) in Ravenna, Italy and serves as a director. She has spoken on mosaic art in England, France, Australia and Brazil and teaches advanced classes around the world. Sonia creates one-of-a-kind, contemporary mosaics for gallery, architectural, community and home settings. She has been featured on HGTV's popular show, Modern Masters. Sonia recently completed four large mosaic walls for Children's Medical Center of Dallas that were featured on the cover of Healthcare Design magazine and awarded an international Spectrum Award recognizing creativity and achievement in the use of tile in residential and commercial design. Sonia's mosaic art is exhibited both nationally and internationally and is represented in private, public and corporate collections. She is the author of the bestselling book Mosaic Techniques & Traditions from Sterling Publishing and is currently co-writing Mosaic Master Class: The Advanced Techniques. www.mosaicworks.com * An additional US$20 registration fee is charged during application ** The amount of deposit to be paid is US$320 |
