Bringing contrast by mixing techniques in blown glass from cold to hot, combine cutting, casting or "pate de verre" with blown glass. In this course the students will be introduced to glue on blown shapes at the end of the pipe glass parts that have been worked with other techniques: It will start with casted glass that will be welded on the blown shape before it's getting cold then casted elements will be stored in a garage or in a fusing kiln to be taken later. Students will prepare pieces that will be cold worked (cutting, grinding, engraving, sandblasting) reheated (in a kiln or in the garrage) to the working temperature, glued on blown shapes and hot worked again. This course will open many decorative and sculptural possibilities for the students, staying clear from most of the technical hazard.

Nicolas Morin

Nicolas Morin was born in November,1959 and started a glass initiation in the family’s studio in 1973. During this time, he spent most of his school holidays in the glass studio. He graduated from Architecture in 1984 and started as a professional glass artist. In 1986, he worked with William Morris and Dale Chihuly in his studio in Dieulefit to prepare an exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratif in Paris. His first personal exhibition was in Paris, 1987. He worked with Lino Tagliapietra in 1988 for one week sessions organized by the CIRVA (Marseille). In November 2004, he organized an exhibition with eleven young glass artists for his 20 years as a glass professional which was a good opportunity for him to exchange ideas about different way to run the glass studio. In January 2005 he decided to change his working organisation and closed the studio's gallery. The reason for closing his studio was to save some time for spending more time for creation as sculpture and taking time to travel and see other ways of glass making. He had residency in « Eischglashütte Frauenau» in January 2006 and his solo exhibition was held in the Galerie am Museum during the 7th International Glas Symposium in Frauenau. He is currently teaching sessions in Sars Poteries (France) and CERFAV (European Research and Training Centre for Glass Arts) Glass School near Nancy (France). www.idverre.net/morin
