Fusing ve Mixed Media | Beginners to IntermediatePino Cherchi

Application deadline* : 10 May Tuition fee : €800 Accommodation fee : €600 Arrival : 7 June Departure : 22 June Deposit** : 10 May Remainder : 16 May Students in this class will create a body of work incorporating glass with metals such as, copper, brass, and lead. We will explore metal embossing and engraving on 2D and 3D objects using available technical resources. Students will learn technical glass fusing and vitreous fired-on enamels to explore color, pattern and imagery. A variety of opaque and transparent enamels and their pre-and post-firing applications will be addressed. Particular attention will be given to the finishing process, including mixed media techniques using copper leafing, painting, and colored patinas on metal as well on glass. We will also learn a variety of glass cold-working techniques, such as cutting, grinding, sand blasting, and cameo carving. Students will explore how to prepare glass surfaces for laminating, adhesives, and general gluing set-up. The class will discuss problem solving, engineering, common mistakes and efficient ways to create specific design. The instructor will demonstrate his ideal color theory, and students will have the opportunity to apply these color schemes in their own way. Students should bring images and drawings to translate into their glass projects. No prior glass experience is required, and artists experienced in other media and wishing to work with glass are also invited to apply.

Pino Cherchi was born and raised in between Sardinia, France, Venice, and Milan. He is been working in the field of glass for over 28 years. Trained as stained glass restaurateur he learns the complex diversity of glass media through around Europe. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Accademia di Brera in Milan and his Master of Fine Arts Restoration from Ecole du Verre in France, has taught at Scuola D'Arte Botticino Brescia Italy. His work is exhibited both nationally and internationally and is represented by galleries in Florence, Carmel, Seattle, Venice, NYC, Santa Fe, Switzerland, London, China, Hawaii, Rome, Slovenia, Austria, Monte Carlo, Czechoslovakia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Greece.
