Don't Be Afraid of Drawing
Is a course about the human figure and its expression on glass. We will explore glass as a perfect medium on which to create drawn and painted images. The various techniques which will be introduced are innovative approaches to fuse idea with medium. Using clear and colored glass we will study how to apply glass enamel, golden leaf, sand blasting, etching, how to assemble different pieces together, how to find the right proportion and scale for the image, etc. From the spontaneous sketch, and through the creative process of mistakes and experiments, we will achieve unexpectedly unique results. Students are required to bring their favorite drawing tools as well as curiosity and imagination. To further one's exploration of the multifaceted human construction, students will have the opportunity to take part in yoga practices with Basia Lipska.

Barbara Idzikowska

Barbara Idzikowska graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Wroc?aw, Poland in 1988 She works as freelanced artist in her own atelier, exhibiting and teaching in Europe. "I am fascinated by and I enjoy original things, which in a certain sense are always the same and always new. In art such a thing is a drawing - the universal basis of all kinds of visual art, the foundation of each individual creation. A sketch, a note, a fish just out of the water wriggling on the hook, dazzling with the flickers of light on the scales, a concrete in the so far abstract concept, the kernel of the form of the materializing vision. I know, this is introductory stage while translating from the language of imagination into the language of reality, but this is what I want to preserve in my works: all this momentary, glistening, epiphany features of a sketch, its spontaneity, dynamics, and immanent capability of further changes. The glass, onto which I transfer my drawings, is nearly perfect for my purposes. Used sensibly, it both hides its presence and fortifies the independent existence of the drawing."
