For this class you must be able to make round beads & you should have at least one lampworking class prior.
I call this class the Core of Glass Bead Making, a play on words really, as in this 5 day intermediate advanced bead making class we will focus on
1. Core Vessel Beads or perfume bottle (or Core Forming for glass vessels),
2. Silver Core Beads,
3. A few of my favorites where the Core of the bead & how it is made dictates the final finished look of the bead, such at the Apple Core Bead.
All of these techniques have only 2 things in common, one of course is the name of the technique and the other is that they are all made of glass…
1- Over 5000 years ago the Egyptians used to make their very small lovely glass vessels (perfume bottles) in a manor called Core Forming. They used sand, grass & other means to make a core for these vessels, this technique is still in use today & in some way it is said to be the origins of how beads are made on a mandrels now. We will use Steel Wool and bead release to make the shape of our core (vessel) bead, then wrap the glass around it to make the actual vessel.
2- Silver Core Beads, a design that is now sweeping the Bead Making world as the large hole beads that have Sterling Silver tubing in them that are used in Pandora Troll Biagi or any 5mm thick chain or bangle. This technique is also done with Copper.
3- In between waiting for our Core Vessels to be ready for working on them, we will work on several different core beads, such as the Apple Core & Illuminated Cores which are made with color, glass type and acid etch.
So join me for 5 days of fun & Core Glass… You won't want to miss it.

Jelveh Jaferian

Jelveh moved to the US during the Iranian revolution in 1978, and her artwork is infused with a unique blend of colors, textures and themes from both Persian and American cultures. Her art form of choice has progressed from collage work to quilting, mosaics, clay and stained glass-each of which reflected her funky yet sophisticated style and attention to detail.
Finally, in early 2001, her husband introduced her to her first lampworking kit and her artistic passion truly caught flame. She started torching beads in the end of her tiny kitchen about the same time she stopped cooking meals. Now known especially for her landscape focal beads and organic designs, her commitment to constant innovation is well known, and each bead, from shape to dimpled holes, is finished to exacting standards. Now if she could only provide the same attention to detail in other areas of her life, like house keeping. From the curly wild poof of hair on top of her head to her bubbly taskmaster personality in class, she is often told by her students that "she is the most fun teacher they've had and they come away having learned a great deal about flameworking & glass."
