Glass Blowing

BENJAMIN MOORE / Intermediate to Advanced

This course will focus on individual concepts, techniques and design in blown glass. The importance of working with a team will be emphasized as well as solid glassblowing craftsmanship. Technical issues will be addressed while concentrating on student designs. Through repetition, discovery and error, students will gain the confidence and skills to create and build a strong foundation, as well as improve their vocabulary of ideas. Come ready to work!
There will be extensive digital and video presentations dealing with early to mid 20th century Italian glass making and design trends. There will also be additional presentations dealing with the contemporary Northwest Studio glass movement.

Benjamin Moore

Born 1952, Olympia Washington. BFA, California College of the Arts and Crafts, MFA, Rhode Island School of Design. Recipient of a NEA grant. Work is in numerous museum and private collections throughout the world. Designer at the Venini Factory (Murano-Venice-Italy) and J&L Lobermeyr, (Vienna-Austria). Longtime affiliation with Pilchuck Glass School as its Interim Executive Director, Artistic Director, faculty, and currently a member of the Board of Trustees. Owner of Benjamin Moore, Inc., a Seattle glass studio, which provides hot shop resources and a team of highly skilled glass blowers to a variety of artists including Dan Dailey, Dale Chihuly, Lino Tagliapietra, Richard Royal, Dante Marioni and Preston Singletary since 1985.
