Kiln CastingPAT BAKO

Whether you are new to glass, or you already have some experience creating with kilnworking, there will be a lot to investigate and learn. Students will create glass work with the following techniques: kiln casting, mold making, pate de verre, fusing and slumping and will work with various forms of glass: sheet, frit, powder, billet and cullet. Proper techniques for using wax and clay for moldmaking forms will be a part of the class. Technical aspects of kiln work such as what types of glass to use for specific projects, compatibility issues and proper annealing schedules will be shared. This is a wonderful class to begin or continue your kiln-casting skills; plan to work hard and come away with working knowledge of many diverse and amazing glass-making methods.
Pat Bako![]() Pat Bako's dynamic glass works are based on personal experiences and family relationships. She creates her sculptures using hot sculpting, coldworking, pate de verre, kiln-casting and fusing. Bako is an artist that is also dedicated to teaching and has taught classes at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Washington;The Pittsburgh Glass Center and The Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. Bako earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology, with a minor in Sociology, in 2002 and has also studied at the Harrachov Glass School in the Czech Republic, Penland School of Crafts and Pilchuck Glass School. Bako lives in Seattle, Washington where she serves as the glass department manager at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Washington.
