Glass With Meaning
This class will teach various techniques in hot glass, the course will work towards creating glass sculpture. The initial emphasis will be placed on the breakdown of a concept into basic components that can be used to construct a finished glass sculpture. Working together, the class will learn blowing skills, solid sculpting techniques and mold making procedures. Construction and assemble techniques will also be stressed. Class discussion, demonstrations and exercises will develop individual concepts, composition and design aesthetics. The class will spend half the time in the hot shop and half the time making molds and final construction. Some experience necessary but will meet the needs of all levels of skill.

James Vella is the owner of Vella Vetro Art Glass and Custom Design in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition to his exhibition history, he has taught many courses at Bild-Werk Glass School in Frauenau Germany, Penland School of Craft North Carolina and Red Deer College located in Alberta, Canada, as well as being a member of the staff at Pilchuck Glass School.
