The lampworking workshop covers techniques which include pulling stringers and using them for stringer & dot application, making latticino, complex twisties, simple murrini, effective color combinations and design elements. The workshop is very technique-oriented and you shall be practicing in the first half of the workshop the techniques which I employ in my lampworking. In the second half of the workshop, we shall talk about design elements and color combination and using the techniques covered before, you are encouraged to make beads with your own designs. Participants are requested to bring along their own color wheel for the workshop. I shall also work with each participant individually for their special requests during the workshop providing they inform me ahead of time. This workshop is suitable for all levels of lampworking. All participants must feel comfortable working with a Minor torch.

Dora Schubert

In 2003, Dora took a 6hr hothead workshop in Hamburg, Germany and then learned mainly on her own through books. 2 weeks later, she bought her 1st Nortel Minor torch and was torching an average of 10 hours per day. About 8 months later, Dora started taking lampwork workshops in intervals with five various experienced and popular lampwork artists from the UK and USA. She is most inspired by Moorish architecture and their mosaic work (both its colour combinations and designs), textiles and fashion industries, the surrounding nature, the marine world, microorganism and lately the drawings by young children - she is especially drawn to their honest simplicity and simultaneously their naiveté.
She began teaching lampworking classes at her home studio every quarter since 2005, usually in groups of four. Her overseas teaching in 2007 and 2008 were at the following venues: June 2007: Bead & Button Show, Milwaukee - USA, August 2007: Plowden & Thompson-UK, January 2008: Leende, The Netherlands, August 2008: Plowden & Thompson, UK.
Dora's work is mainly in private collections in the USA and several in the UK. Her work may be seen on www.doraschubert.com and has been published in the following books and magazines: Beads & Beyond, November 2008, Bead Review 3-2008, Beads & Beyond- October 2007, Bead & Button, June 2007, It's All About The Beads by Barbara Case.
