"From Alchemy to Understanding"
This course offers an exploration of the intriguing, magical world of kiln formed glass. You will experiment with and learn many different techniques, including fusing, slumping, stencil decoration, small open mould use, making one off moulds, inclusions,U.V bonding and surface decoration. The kiln processes are demystified and analysis of the groups work will create a deeper understanding of the techniques. From your experiments you will make a selection of samples, develop your style and make finished glass pieces from your favourite glass techniques.

Brett Manley

Brett Manley is a Kiln Formed Glass Artist and teacher. She has studied glass at many colleges including Central Saint Martins. Experimenting with many types of glass production but always returning to kiln formed glass as the technique she finds most attractive and creative.
Bretts work comes in many forms mainly reached in trying to resolve questions and elucidate curiosities about glass. Using glasses ability to obscure, reflect, project, reveal and alter to create her work with ranges widely from installation to vessels and jewellery.
Brett has exhibited widely including in Dubai. She teaches kiln formed glass at the Art Academy in London to students at all levels of learning. Bretts inspiration is often material led, and from her collections and years of working as a ceramic restorer, but also comes from nature, gut emotions and a need to create.
