The Art of Mosaic - The Indirect Technique
This two week course will explore intensely the indirect technique, in particular the reverse method on paper, one of the easiest techniques in mosaic making. The students will learn about "thinking mosaic" when sketching the design, rather than copying somebody else's finished artwork, as well as various andamenti. Selecting and mixing colours with glass, glass cutting, glass gluing and finally flipping the mosaics onto the permanent substrate are a few of the steps the students will engage in. There will be a power point presentation on mosaics through the ages as well as current work in progress in the artist's studio. A Questions and Answers period will follow. Visits to museums showing real ancient mosaics will add general knowledge to this intense hands-on course. Students will complete a small mosaic during this two week period.

Materials for students to bring:
Pencils, carbon paper, masking tape, brushes, sponges, rubber gloves, paper towels, old rags, a small mirror
